Illawarra Multicultural Services (IMS) is an Not-for-Profit organisation supporting the culturally & linguistically diverse (CALD) population of the Illawarra. Officially opened by the then Federal Minister of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs, Mr. Ian MacPhee, IMS has been providing assistance to migrants, humanitarian entrants and refugees since 1980.

In September 2017, IMS partnered with Internetrix, seeking assistance with a number of services including Branding and Website Development projects.

IMS partnered with Internetrix in September 2017. This was closely followed by two additional projects including the creative for an Annual Report and Email Template design. 

The Brief

IMS CEO, Raquel Aldunate, met with her assigned project team from Internetrix and outlined a number of challenges that IMS were faced with in an effort to re-band.  Internetrix were tasked with designing a logo, that reflected the organisations new strategy and objectives whilst still maintaining a clear connection to the organisations root values and reputation. The various elements of this brand, was then to be extended across a brand new website that Internetrix was to design and develop. After the initial meeting, it was clear that IMS had the following goals:

  • IMS needed a new brand logo to better align with the brand purpose, but didn’t want to lose familiarity from existing customers.
  • With a new brand strategy in place, IMS needed to update their website to reflect this
  • A brand new corporate website with a more professional, yet welcoming feel was also requested.
  • IMS had no insight to how many people were using their website, how engaged they were, or any other web analytics metric
  • IMS needed a website CMS platform that would allow for staff to access internal documents through a restricted login
  • IMS could not take online payments for membership or donations

Our Process

Internetrix work-shopped with IMS to deliver 3 logo design concepts. IMS chose their preferred concept that Internetrix refined to produce a logo that reflect core values without it being at the expense of a sense of professionalism. Our designers were then able to utilise the various visual elements of this logo to extend the brand across the creative for the new IMS website, Annual report template, email template and associated collateral. 

The development of the IMS website was strategic. During the planning phase, Internetrix work shopped a site-map and subsequent wire frames that aimed to simplify navigation paths, present information with a clear sense of visual heirarchy and ensure users are able to easily find program information by simplifying how content was presented. Once the wireframes passed requirements Internetrix designers were then able to proceed to the creative application and the front-end development. 

Finally, the website was built upon the SilverStripe platform, which allowed the IMS staff to self manage their website with the flexibility that they required. Some interesting feature of the  website included a restricted resources area for staff, Google Analytics integration, and an online payments module for memberships and donation via the eWay merchant facility.

By partnering with Internetrix, IMS was able to introduce their new brand at the 2016/17 IMS AGM, and begin using their new website to better market their services to local clients, donors, government entities and more.
