The University of Wollongong's new website went live last week after a seven month collaboration with local web development firm Internetrix. Internetrix provided UOW with extensive eStrategy consultation, Information Architecture, creative and implementation oversight to ensure the mammoth project ran smoothly and addressed key issues.
UOW approached Internetrix upon realization that their previous site was failing to communicate the University's distinct identity and enviable record of achievements in teaching and research.
"We realized that the UOW site was starting to slip behind," said UOW Marketing Manager, Emily Christofides. "The old site didn't reflect the aesthetics of the campus and wasn't being used as a vehicle for narrative about the various aspects of the University."
As the first port-of-call for many prospective students, UOW's website was essential to the achievement of their goal to attract higher caliber Domestic Students and increasing International Student enrolments.
Because the previous website had developed over a long period of time, an entire restructuring, as well as creative overhaul, was necessary to achieve UOW's goals.
"The project was a huge undertaking based on the size and complexity of UOW," said Internetrix General Manager, Daniel Rowan. "When we got to it, the site was a real mess which lacked coherent structure and logic and ultimately communicated an undesirable message to the Uni's audiences."
Although UOW possessed many of the required skills for the website redevelopment in-house, it was necessary to get in a third-party to ensure the success of such an important marketing project. Internetrix was selected based on the stellar results of a previous project to update the Future Students section of the website.
"We received such positive reviews from the campus which ultimately saw the Uni contact us and ask for a site wide adaptation of the creative our team had produced for the Future Students section," said Mr. Rowan.
