Search Engine Marketing (SEM) involves advertising your website on popular search engines such as Google, using tools like Google AdWords to create and monitor the advertisement/campaigns. Specifically, SEM campaigns refer to the sponsored links that are located in a dedicated area on the search engine results page, highlighted on the diagram below.

SEM campaigns are defined by the following features:

  • Free to advertise
  • Only pay when advertisement is clicked
  • Involves a bidding process
  • Often referred to as pay-per-click, cost-per-click or sponsored campaigns

The SEM creation and reporting process is shown graphically in the following diagram.

The primary goal of such activities is to attract qualified leads to your website or landing page. A landing page is a specially designed web page that provides clear conversion points, and is created specifically for a particular campaign. Search Engine Marketing is a competitive type of advertising that requires careful planning and execution, which is where Internetrix can assist. Carrying out a structured campaign, which is aligned with your offline and online objectives, requires an iterative search engine cycle to be adopted. The stages within this cycle are demonstrated below.
